Abstract

The study was conducted in Winter-Spring 2020-2021 and Summer-Autumn 2021 crop on alluvial soil in Quang Dien district, Thua Thien Hue province in order to assess the efficiency of the model biochar application in rice cultivation. Results showed that the model of using biochar (2.5 tons) from straw and rice husk on the fertilizer base of 100 kg N + 65 kg P2O5 + 70 kg K2O + 500 kg lime had a good effect on growth, development and yield of rice variety HT1 compared with the control model applied 110 kg N + 70 kg P2O5 + 75 kg K2O + 500 kg lime. Applying biochar resulted in shortening the growth stage of rice from 1 to 2 days and increasing rice yield from 1.0 to 1.1 tons/ha. The main pests and diseases were rice leaf roller and brown spot (point 3). The density rice leaf roller of the biochar model was lower than that of the control model in two crops. Moreover, applying biochar in rice cultivation brought higher economic efficiency than the traditional fertilizer application of the farmer from 6.0 to 7.3 million VND/ha biochar and contributed to improving chemical and biological properties of the soil.
