Abstract
This study is to address the role of non-timber forestry product (NTFP) on forestry management and protection at Thuong Lo, a mountainous commune in Nam Dong district, Thua Thien Hue province. The study applied structural equation model (SEM) on data from 150 households who are involved in community forestry management and collecting NTFP. The results showed that NTFP contributes up to 16.2 % in total households’ income. Moreover, other two roles of NTFP in bio-diversity conservation and indigenous culture are well-recognized by the surveyed households. The awareness of NTFP value positively affects the personal perception and personal norm on forestry management and protection. These two factors significantly impact collaborative action among the households, which is a condition to achieve better forest management and protection by improving forest cover, quality of forest and effective implementation of forestry protection and management plan.
