Abstract
The research was carried out including nine experiments corresponding to nine varieties of rain lily with different colors and were arranged in a sequency, non-repeating block design, each variety has it own block. The sesearch results showed that 7/9 varieties of rain lily collected were able to grow and develop well in the climatic and soil conditions in Thua Thien Hue province. The varieties of rain lily have diversity in stem and leaf characteristics: the number of leaves range from 10.4 to 13.6 leaves/plant, the plant height is from 22.76 to 30.64 cm, the diameter of the bulb is from 1.93 to 2.85 cm. Rain lily was strong tillering ability after bud formation and flowering. The number of new bulb is from 4 to 9 bulbs/plant/6 months. The rain lily vairties were high tendency to create hybrids due to their large and colorful flower structure, 6/9 varieties of rain lyly have pistils located on the stamens. The duration from planting to blooming is 54 - 62 days, the number of flowers per plant is 2 - 3 flowers, floral longevity is 2 days, the position of the flowers are above the leaves and very blooming. Rain lily is less affected by pests and diseases. The study results confirmed that is possibility of hybridization to create of new rain lily varieties in future.
