Biosecurity in pig production is the most optimal technical measure today to repel diseases and develop sustainable livestock production. This study was conducted to assess the livestock production situation, the level of understanding and application of biosafety measures in pig production households in Phong Dien district, Thua Thien Hue province. The survey results show that the mainly production system is combination of sows and growing in the open housing system. Regarding the level of biosafety knowledge, 28% of surveyed households have known of biosafety, 21% understand and 20% of households applied biosafety measures in pig production. In addition to the criteria on the location and location of the stables to ensure that according to the national technical regulations on biosafety farm conditions (QCVN 01-14:2010/BNNPTNT), other criteria have not been met. In particular, the criteria for improvement include “measures to prevent pathogens from entering” such as disinfection pits at the gate and entrance to the barn; quarantined breeds, isolation of newly purchased pigs, measures to prevent rodents, mice, dogs, etc. and “ measures to prevent spreading pathogens” such as the principle of all-in-one-out, isolation of sick pigs, killing disinfect means of transport, people and items at the entrance to the farm, livestock area and discharge waste directly into the environment.
